In First Quarter 2022, Relatively Sharp Increase in In-Network Care Occurred as the No Surprises Act Came into Effect

In-network care increased across all professional specialties in facility settings from the first quarter of 2019 to the third quarter of 2023 nationally and in all regions. From the fourth quarter of 2021 to the first quarter of 2022, a relatively sharp increase nationally and in all regions occurred across all specialties at the time the No Surprises Act (NSA) went into effect. These and other findings are reported in a recently released FAIR Health white paper: In-Network and Out-of-Network Utilization and Pricing: A Study of Private Healthcare Claims.

FAIR Health Consumer Website Analytics Reveal Users’ Interest in Healthcare Topics

In 2023, users of FAIR Health’s free, award-winning consumer website, fairhealthconsumer.org, sought guidance on how to minimize their healthcare costs, obtain coverage for alternative medicine and request in-network coverage for certain out-of-network services. Hartford Foundation (JAHF), launched Healthy Decisions for Healthy Aging, a national campaign to promote and disseminate FAIR Health’s groundbreaking healthcare educational tools and resources for older adults and their caregivers on FAIRHealthOlderAdults.org.

FAIR Health Launches Healthy Decisions for Healthy Aging Campaign

With generous support from The John A. Hartford Foundation (JAHF), FAIR Health has launched Healthy Decisions for Healthy Aging. This is a national campaign to spread the news about FAIRHealthOlderAdults.org. This website has healthcare educational tools and resources for older adults and their caregivers. The campaign uses messaging and visuals to empower older adults and their caregivers to make educated healthcare decisions.

Eating disorders are a group of mental health conditions that have to do with eating behaviors. A new FAIR Health report found that from 2018 to 2022, eating disorder claim lines rose by 65 percent. Also, almost three-quarters of patients with eating disorders had some other kind of mental health condition as well.
